Latest Updates

On 17th September 2019, a team of volunteers from the BPAG began the preservation work on ZE360 at Manston, Kent.

Firstly, the whole aircraft was cleaned, scrubbed and rinsed to remove as much fire foam residue, moss, dirt and salt deposits as possible. Underside, wing fold areas and undercarriage were inspected. Partial disassembly of the tailcone allowed access to stabilator pivot mechanism, which appears to be in good order. Finally, an application of PX-32 preservative to all non-stainless outer surfaces to protect against further damage from weather. Final result was a noticable improvement in exterior condition.

Conclusions from the day’s work were that corrosion of the airframe and parts is not worse than expected and nothing we have seen so far should jeopardize moving the aircraft.

Many thanks to Key Publishing and the staff of Aeroplane Magazine for reporting on both ZE360 and XT597 in the current issue. In the shops now or available to order from the Key Publishing website-
